David Nicholas (Nick) Boccabello
(Age 39, SHS Class of 86)
Nick Boccabello entered eternal life on Thursday July 12th 2007 after a year-long battle with Leukemia (AML). He served with distinction in the first Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm) as a Reconnaissance Marine (2nd Mar. Div., 2nd Recon Bn.). His decorations included the Combat Action Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, and the National Defense Service Medal. He also served as a Marine Religious Lay Reader. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant (E-5) in 1992. He earned a Bachelors’ in Engineering Management and served the Semiconductor Industry and the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory at Duke University building next-generation technologies. He was most proud of his three daughters and considered them his most important work. He rejoiced in the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and carried it wherever he went. He finished his last battle like all the rest - with honor, astonishing bravery, an enduring sense of humor, deep love for his family and friends, and an unshakeable faith in his God. He was surrounded by family - including his three daughters - when he fell asleep in the Lord. He is survived by daughters Jessica Marie Boccabello, Ryan Kay Boccabello and Elizabeth Kaye Boccabello; wife Nicole; parents David Charles Boccabello and Audrey Kay (Hurst) Boccabello; brother Jeremy Scott Boccabello; sister-in-law Patricia Aitken Boccabello; nephew William Charles Boccabello; niece Nancy Grace Boccabello; cousin Timothy Randall Richards; a large loving family; close friends, including Jodi Yoho and Jason McCann; and his brother Marines. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM Friday, July 20 at Church of our Savior Oatlands, Route 15 eight miles south of Leesburg followed by a committal service with full military honors at 12 noon at Quantico National Cemetery.
